Catholic Awareness Week 2007 (5th - 10th February)

Yeah my room doubled up as a store before CAW.. Was quite sure that ghosts didn't dare to pass near my room, but probably burglers would if they knew that my room had at least $24000 worth of exhibits..
First time ever that CAW had an exhibition of such an ambitious proportion.. Past exhibitions were a faculty roving board and pamphlet affair with no exhibits at all.. This year, we had the Central Library as our main exhibition venue to showcase exhibits acquired from various churches and individuals.. The faculties had simultaneous board displays.. Pamphlets and prayer cards etc were distributed at all venues.. I have to praise my Exhibition Committee members for all their efforts and their tolerance level.. They were 'ill treated' by me.. Yes, I'm a slave driver.. *Evil grins*

This section was extremely popular.. Even the Hindu cleaner came and told us that she knows about Our Lady of Vailankanni.. Have you ever seen Our Lady dressed in the Korean Hanbok or the Thai Siwarai? Surprised to see Ang Pows printed with the images of the Holy Family or the Madonna and Child? How about the Madonna and Child dressed in Qing imperial garb? And do you know that Our Lady of Singapore exists? She is dressed in the Peranakan Sarong Kebaya..

We recreated a Tridentine Altar and it was very well received.. Many Catholics didn't know about the Tridentine Mass.. This exhibition I believe must have been an eye opener for them.. Many people especially the Protestants and Muslims were very interested to know more about the Mass and the Real Presence..

The Relic of the True Cross came from the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, courtesy of Father Anthony.. It was the highlight of the exhibition and many people stopped by to take a look at the 3 splinters.. The Monstrance came from the Church of the Holy Cross, courtesy of Father Valerian..

My black fiddleback chasuble together with its accompanying stole, maniple, burse and chalice veil where put on display too.. Hee.. Many people didn't know what those black 'things' were doing on the Easter candle.. Well, they are incense grains.. 5 of them representing the 5 wounds of Christ..

Another highlight was the 1986 Papal Throne.. Made for Pope John Paul II when he visited Singapore..

The exhibition at the Central Library venue was moved to Catholic Junior College (rally venue) on the last day..

Catholic Junior College.. The last day.. Will be nice if Archbishop Nicholas Chia will let me help him set up a museum for the Archdiocese.. Will probably rope in my trusty team to help me then.. =)
